Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart will be questionable for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals vs the Miami Heat, which start Tuesday night.
The team announced the news, with head coach Ime Udoka saying that he suffered a mid-foot sprain in Game 7 vs the Milwaukee Bucks.
The dynamic guard had an excellent semifinal series vs the Bucks as the Celtics closed out the intense matchup Sunday evening. Smart missed Game 2 against the Bucks due to a quad injury.
It’s still unclear when Smart suffered the injury, as he finished the game vs Bucks. The Celtics faced the share of injuries this postseason.
Robert Williams missed time in both rounds with knee issues. However, Smart is a tougher blow for the Celtics if he misses time against Miami.
The 28-year-old’s DPOY nod had an important part in the Celtics’ defensive scheme, averaging 1.1 steals. Smart is the first defender to press the opponent ball-handler.
He is also a critical part in the offensive end as he averages 6.2 assists per game. The 28-year-old guard has had some great postseason games in the offensive end putting up 15 points per game and shooting 41.6 from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc.
The Conference Finals series start Tuesday night in Miami.
