Magic Johnson believes signing DeMar DeRozan in the offseason would have made the Los Angeles Lakers a championship team.
Back in the summer, DeRozan was willing to join the Lakers as a free agent and play alongside Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
However, the 17-time NBA champions decided to trade for Russell Westbrook instead of signing a deal with DeRozan.
“If you sign DeRozan, you only trade Kuzma for Buddy Hield, we would be playing in the Western Conference championship this year with those two guys,” Magic Johnson said during his appearance on Get Up of ESPN.
With Westbrook in the lineup, the Lakers (31-47) failed to live up to the expectations and are on the brink of elimination from the play-in tournament.
For his part, DeRozan signed a three-year deal with the Chicago Bulls and teamed up with Zach LaVine to bring the Bulls back to the top. Chicago currently is fifth in the East, with a 45-33 record.
