Magic Johnson believes the Los Angeles Lakers should consider trading Anthony Davis if the injury woes continue.
Over the past two seasons, Davis has missed numerous games because of injuries. And according to the Lakers and NBA legend, if that happens next season too, then the franchise should explore a trade.
“AD, you gotta change whatever it is. You gotta stay healthy. Or the Lakers gotta say, after next season, if you don’t stay healthy, they gotta look at you and say, ‘Maybe you should be somewhere else.’
Because they need you on the court, not in your clothes sitting on the bench. So I think he’s gotta change some things,” Magic Johnson said during his appearance on Get Up of ESPN.
Anthony Davis has appeared in just 39 of the 78 games the Lakers have played this season. Last Friday, he returned to the lineup after missing 18 games with a right mid-foot sprain.
In the 2020/21 season, the All-Star big man missed 36 of the 72 games, due to injuries. For their part, the 17-time NBA champions plan to keep Davis for at least one more season.
“Los Angeles will be limited in its options for turnover outside of the coaching staff. While some rival executives around the league have wondered about the Lakers’ willingness to discuss trading All-Star forward Anthony Davis this offseason, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation refuted that option will seriously be on the table for Los Angeles brass.
Despite Davis’ battle with injury the past two seasons, Lakers figures still harbor faith that a healthy pairing of Davis and LeBron James can once more boast a championship-contending ceiling as it did in 2020,” Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report reports.
Anthony Davis is under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers until the end of the 2024/25 season, with the final year being a player option.
