Dallas Mavericks put a stop to the Celtics’ five-game winning streak coming back from a 13-point deficit to claim a 95-92 victory in Boston TD Garden.
The Mavericks made a 38-26 run in the third quarter to rally past the Celtics. Dallas shot 40 percent from deep, including two big threes from Doncic and Dinwiddie, which led to a 6-0 run in the last 2:31 of the game.
Dinwiddie hit the dagger with 11.6 remaining in the clock to give the Mavericks a three-point lead. In the battle of the two stars, Luka Doncic and Jayson Tatum led their teams in scoring, respectively.
Luka Doncic had a stellar performance with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting. He added eight assists and eight rebounds to continue his impressive run.
Tatum finished the contest with 21 points missing the final shot of the game, a game-tying three. He also registered 11 rebounds and four assists for a Celtics team that shot 24.3 percent from deep.
Since the All-Star break, both Boston (106.9) and Dallas (105.2) rank second and first in defense in the NBA, respectively.
Both teams were able to showcase their defensive ability during the game, but Dallas hit the biggest shots with Doncic taking over and spoiling Kevin Garnett’s big day.
Garnett received a standing ovation when he walked in, and he was honored with video tributes during most breaks.
The Celtics and NBA legend will become the 24th franchise player to have his jersey retired.
