Luka Doncic made his first deep run in the playoffs and he’s already looking forward to the next season, after the Dallas Mavericks eliminated in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals.
Doncic reflected on the experience they got from this season playing against championship-caliber teams. He praised the Warriors as a championship team and said he knew the Mavericks were able to go deep in the playoffs.
“I know nobody had us here, but (that’s) nothing new. I love this team. I think we did a great job. From the whole playoffs we fought. At the end it was impossible, but I really enjoyed playing with those guys,” Doncic said in the postgame presser.
Doncic scored at least 30 points in the first four games of this series vs the Warriors.and wound up with 28 points on 10-of-28 shots in Game 5, and also collected nine rebounds and six assists.
He struggled in the first half shooting just 2-of-12 from the floor with three turnovers. He averaged 31.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists to lead the Mavericks, who has last won a playoff series in their championship run back in 2011.
“I think he carries the load as well as anyone, and I think for us as an organization we’ll help lighten that load as we go forward,” Jason Kidd said…“But I think when you look at the parts of his game, they’re all above average. They’re all excellent.”
The Slovenian superstar was frequently a defensive liability in some games during the postseason and that’s what Doncic will look to improve in the individual level so he can help the Mavericks win a championship in the future.
“I think defense has got to be way better for me,” Doncic said. “Honestly, I think I made a huge step this year defensively, but there’s so much room for improvement. I’ve got to be way better there. I think that’s one spot that can take us to the next level.”
