Luka Doncic has been proven himself as a closer in the big stage and that’s what he did against the best team of the regular season. Doncic was even happier after the Dallas Mavericks close out the series vs the Suns in Phoenix Sunday night.
Doncic went off for 27 points in the first half. This was the number of points the Suns scored in the first half as a team, and Dallas cruised to victory the rest of the way.
“Honestly, I’m really happy,” Doncic admitted. “I can’t get this smile off my face right now, I’m just really happy. Honestly, I think we deserved this.”
“We’ve been playing hard the whole series — maybe a couple games here we weren’t ourselves. But we came here today for Game 7. We believed our luck, everybody believed. So, I’m just happy.”
Doncic credited his team’s defense for the remarkable first half performance as the Mavs kept Phoenix to 27 points. Thee Mavs did not look back again as Luka only scored eight points in the second half.
“Our defense was amazing. That was good (on his 27-point first half performance). But, this is a team win, team effort, everybody played amazing, everybody just left everything on the court. I’m really proud of this team.”
Dallas should savor this win for the time being, but they won’t have long to celebrate their achievement. On Wednesday, Luka Doncic and co. will start their journey in the Western Conference Finals against a veteran team like the Warriors.
Mavs have proven that they can beat anyone and the NBA peers should not count them out anymore.
