NBA super agent Rich Paul met with the Lakers’ owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka on Tuesday to inform them that LeBron James wants to stay with the franchise, Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Paul reportedly noted there was no ongoing campaign to force management of the Lakers to changes in the organization.
The meeting came after James generated discussions for his future during the All-Star Weekend. James admitted he’ll do everything to play with his son Bronny in the final year of his career.
Paul reportedly refuted the idea that James was angling for an exit and said the four-time MVP is committed to winning another title with Los Angeles. James won the fourth title of his career in LA just two years ago.
He then penned a two-year deal worth $85-million in December 2020. He is set to become a free agent in 2023, but he can sign an extension with the Lakers this offseason.
Los Angeles is ninth in the Western Conference at 27-31 and just three games clear of the No. 10 Portland Trail Blazers. The Lakers will try to maintain a playoff seed without Anthony Davis, as the forward was ruled out for at least four weeks on Feb. 17 with a foot injury.
James will have to push the Lakers out of the play-in tournament in the remaining 20-something games for the end of the regular season.
