Los Angeles Lakers have recently requested to interview Milwaukee Bucks’ top assistant Darvin Ham, Shams Charania of the Athletic reports. The Lakers’ interest in Ham comes with no surprise, as the veteran coach was also a consideration for several teams last season.
Ham served on Mike Brown’s staff from 2011-13, when the current Warriors assistant was the head coach of the Lakers. Following his stint in LA, Darvin was hired on Mike Budenholzer’s staff in Atlanta. He spent the next seven seasons alongside Budenholzer in Atlanta and Milwaukee.
The 2021 NBA champion has served as a replacement to Budenholzer in various occasions having a 13-3 record with the Bucks. He has the experience of working with NBA megastars like Kobe Bryant and Giannis Antetokounmpo. His experience could come in handy in the LA’s bright lights.
The Bucks’ assistant could be also in the mix for several other coaching vacancies, but, the Lakers seem to be the more attractive destination market-wise. Ham is still coaching with the Bucks and heading into Round 2 of the 2021-22 NBA postseason to face off against the Boston Celtics.
He played in the NBA between 1996-2008 appearing for the Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons. The Lakers reportedly have interest in Jazz’s Quin Snyder and Sixers’ Doc Rivers. Snyder could be expected to be in the hot seat after Utah’s early first-round exit.
The veteran head coach will reportedly discuss his future with the Jazz. Snyder has one guaranteed year remaining on his contract. The Jazz made the postseason for each of the last six seasons under Snyder’s guidance. The Lakers are likely to be among the interested teams if Snyder does not continue in Utah.
