Los Angeles Lakers are searching for a new head coach with Kenny Atkinson becoming the latest candidate to get an interview with the franchise, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

After the Lakers fired Frank Vogel a few weeks back, they have been methodically meeting with candidates and plan to talk with Atkinson soon, per Woj.

Atkinson is the fifth candidate known to be interviewed for the position following Terry Stotts, Mark Jackson, Darvin Ham and Adrian Griffin. The veteran coach has already interviewed for the Hornets’ vacancy.

Atkinson was the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets for three and a half seasons. He took over the team when they had one of the worst rosters in the league with a few draft picks available.

He eventually led Brooklyn to the postseason in his third season opening the way for stars like Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to join the team. The last two seasons, he worked as an assistant for the Clippers and the Warriors.

He is known for his skills as developmental coach, and it’s hard to see how he fits in the Lakers’ current timeline with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. However, his experience the last two seasons may have helped him, coaching alongside huge stars in LA and San Francisco.
