Lakers on brink of play-in elimination after sixth straight loss

The Los Angeles Lakers are on the brink of elimination from the play-in tournament, after their sixth straight loss.

This time, it was the Denver Nuggets that defeated the Lakers (129-118). Denver took over in the fourth quarter, outscored LA 34-24 and claimed the win.

Nikola Jokic led all scorers with 38 points, 18 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. Five more players scored in double figures for the winners.

On the other hand, Anthony Davis flirted with the triple-double for the losing squad, with 28 points (11/25 shooting), nine rebounds and eight assists.

Russell Westbrook had 27 points (11/15 shooting), 10 boards and 7 assists, while Carmelo Anthony added 17 for the Lakers off the bench.

The Lakers have now lost six in a row and 10 of their last 12. They dropped to 31-47 and are 1.5 games behind 10th-placed San Antonio Spurs.

With four games remaining, it will be very difficult for the 17-time NBA champions to turn things around and reach the play-in tournament.

The remaining four games are vs the Phoenix Suns (road), Golden State Warriors (road), Oklahoma City Thunder (home) and the Denver Nuggets (road).

On the other hand, the Nuggets improved to 47-32 and are two games behind the Dallas Mavericks (49-30) in the battle for fourth. Denver will play its last three games at home, hosting the Spurs, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Lakers.
