Lakers’ LeBron James, Russell Westbrook reflect on loss to Timberwolves

Los Angeles Lakers had to dig themselves out of a hole in the second half against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Lakers’ defense was once again horrendous for three quarters, as Minnesota cruised past 104-124. Minnesota started the game with a 31-17 run in the opening quarter before holding on to a comfortable victory.

Since the All-Star Break, the Wolves are among the best teams in the West with an explosive offense and a gritty defense to show.

The Lakers were able to play competitive basketball for a limited period of time, as they held Towns and co. to 19 points in the third quarter. But, they could not build on that to make a comeback after being down 30 at some point during the contest.

”It’s easy to be comfortable when you’re winning. I’ve never been that guy. It’s all about, ‘How comfortable can you be when things become uncomfortable?’ I’m OK with that, too.

It’s just testing my patience more than any season in the last few years, just because of the way we’re playing,” LeBron said, via NBA.com.

When Russell Westbrook shot an airball on a 3-pointer with a 111-94 deficit, Towns walked over to the baseline where the ball bounced away and, looking at the crowd, put his hand against his forehead as he jokingly pretended to attempt to find it.

“I honestly don’t pay no mind to it. Maybe other guys (do). “They weren’t talking to me. They were talking to individual guys, but the trash talking doesn’t bother me none. Nobody over there has done anything in this league,” Westbrook told reporters after the game.

“It’s fine. They’re good. They won a game, happy for them, (I’ll) move on to the next one. That’s that.”

The Lakers’ slide after the All-Star break continued. They fell a season-worst 11 games under the .500 mark at 29-40, and they are just a game over the tenth-seeded New Orleans Pelicans.

The Lakers are patiently waiting for the return of Anthony Davis, who has not played since mid-February after a foot injury. During Wednesday’s game, Talen Horton-Tucker went down with an ankle injury and was listed out for the rest of the night.

The Lakers classified the injury as a reaggravation of the ankle sprain he has been dealing with in the last few weeks. Horton’s situation is still unclear considering he has been dealing with the ankle issue throughout the last few games. THT played for just nine minutes before he was forced to exit.
