LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have engaged in contract extension talks, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.

Still, there is no agreement between the two sides, but as Rich Paul, James’ agent, told ESPN, talks were ‘productive’.

“James and Paul met with Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka as well as new Lakers coach Darvin Ham in the war room at the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo, California, on Thursday. It was the first day James was eligible to sign a two-year, $97.1 million contract extension with the Lakers. Paul told ESPN he expects both sides to continue a dialogue moving forward,” McMenamin writes.

LeBron James has until June 30, 2023 to sign the extension. If he turns down the offer, he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The most likely scenario is that the four-time NBA champion will sign an 1+1 deal with the Lakers, which will include a player option for the 2023/24 season.
