The Los Angeles Lakers have been eliminated from the play-in tournament, following their road loss to the Phoenix Suns (110-121).
With the San Antonio Spurs defeating the Denver Nuggets (116-97), the Lakers needed a win over the Suns to keep their play-in chances alive. Yet, the defeat to Phoenix means Los Angeles now has zero chance to reach the play-in tournament spots.
The 17-time NBA champions dropped to 31-48 in the standings and have now lost seven straight and 11 of their last 13.
After such a disappointing season, the Lakers are set to make several changes to the roster. The majority of the players will be let go, with only LeBron James having a guaranteed spot in next season’s roster.
The franchise is expected to keep Anthony Davis and Kendrick Nunn in the roster, while it is unclear what will happen with Talen Horton-Tucker. Head coach Frank Vogel is also expected to part ways with the Lakers after the end of the season.
