Los Angeles Lakers officially announced on Monday they have parted ways with head coach Frank Vogel.
The veteran coach is the first to leave the team after a disappointing season. The Lakers got eliminated from the play-in tournament and finished 11th in the standings (33-49).
“Frank is a great coach and a good man. We will forever be grateful to him for his work in guiding us to the 2019-20 NBA championship.
This is an incredibly difficult decision to make, but one we feel is necessary at this point,” GM Rob Pelinka said in a statement.

Frank Vogel became the head coach of the 17-time NBA champions in May 2019. He led the Lakers to the championship in 2020, but things didn’t go right after that.
Last year, the franchise survived the play-in tournament, but got eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the first round. And this season, the team failed to even reach the play-in tournament.
Frank Vogel was under contract with the franchise until the end of the 2022/23 season. He went 127-98 during his three years with the squad.
The 17-time NBA champions are expected to make several changes to the roster, aiming to become title contenders next season.
