Lakers drop fourth straight to remain out of play-in tournament spots

The Los Angeles Lakers couldn’t return to the winning track and remained out of the play-in tournament spots.

This time, it was the Utah Jazz that defeated the 17-time NBA champions (109-122). Utah never trailed in the contest, led by as many as 18 and snapped a five-game losing streak.

The Jazz improved to 46-31 in the standings and climbed to fifth in the West, tied with the Denver Nuggets. On the other hand, the Lakers fell to 31-45 and are tied with 10th-placed San Antonio Spurs.

The Lakers are on a four-game skid and have lost eight of their last 10. Los Angeles is 4-14 since the All-Star break.

With their playoff presence being in serious jeopardy, they have their sights set on Friday’s must-win game vs the New Orleans Pelicans (33-43).

On the other hand, the Jazz have won only twice in the last seven games and want to maintain a top four push. They will now take on the Golden State Warriors, who are just two wins ahead in the standings (4th, 48-29).

Thanks to Thursday’s victory, the Jazz avoided the season sweep by the Lakers, but lost the series eventually (2-1).
