Lakers’ Anthony Davis reportedly making progress towards return

Los Angeles Lakers hope to see Anthony Davis back in action soon. The Lakers’ big has shown encouraging signs moving towards his return.

Davis hasn’t played since injuring his right foot in a Feb. 16 game. However, he’s making progress, and he will probably be able to return before the end of the regular season.

The news were reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski Saturday on “NBA Countdown” (hat tip to RealGM).

“His walking boot is off, and I’m told this week the next step for him is he’ll get on the court and start to do some stationary shooting,” Woj said.

It’s been another injury-plagued season for Davis, who has played in just 37 games after appearing in 36 last year. He’s averaging 23.1 points and 9.7 rebounds this season.

“They’re not punting on this season. Anthony Davis wants to be back, this team wants him back,” Wojnarowski said.

The Lakers hold on to the 9th seed, which leads to the play-in tournament. The Lakers started the season with hopes of making a championship run.

“With 16 games left for the Lakers and the toughest schedule left in the league, the expectation is that they can still hang on to the Play-In and get in the postseason and they can have Anthony Davis back,” Woj added.

The Lakers will meet the league-leading Phoenix Sunday after LeBron James’ big night against the Wizards on Friday.

Despite their recent slump, the Lakers hold a three-game lead over the Trail Blazers for the final play-in spot.
