Kyrie Irving didn’t receive a warm welcome from Boston Celtics fans on Sunday’s game vs the Brooklyn Nets.
The superstar guard once again returned to TD Garden as an opponent and heard boos from Boston fans. However, Irving wasn’t surprised by the atmosphere at TD Garden, given his relationship with Celtics’ fans.
“I know it’s going to be like that the rest of my career coming in here. It’s like the scorned girlfriend who just wants an explanation on why I left but still hoping for a text back. It was fun while it lasted.
The reality is that I’m just grateful for my time here in Boston. Everybody in the front office, everybody in that locker room treated me well.
I still have lasting relationships in our league that extend as a brotherhood to us, and we still remain close,” Kyrie Irving said, via CBS Sports.

The 2016 NBA champion spent two seasons with the Celtics (2017-2019). Boston fans called him out after his decision to join the Nets, despite publicly stating he would re-sign with the franchise.
On Sunday’s game, Kyrie Irving went for 19 points (8/18 shooting, 2/6 from beyond the arc), six assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Kevin Durant led Brooklyn in scoring with 37 points (12/21 shooting), eight assists and six boards. This was just the fourth time this season that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving played together.
The Nets lost to the Celtics (120-126) behind Jayson Tatum’s 54-point performance. They have now lost four straight and dropped to 32-33. Brooklyn is tied with 10th-placed Atlanta Hawks (31-32).
