Kyrie Irving has eventually decided to pick up his player option and return to the Brooklyn Nets for the final year of his contract. Irving couldn’t find any sign-and-trade deals and will exercise his player option, worth $36.9M.
“Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow. I’ve made my decision to opt in. See you in the fall. A11even,” the All-Star guard noted.

According to Bobby Marks of ESPN, Kyrie Irving is eligible to sign an extension up until June 30, 2023 with the Nets. Otherwise, he will become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
In addition, and by opting in the final year of his contract, Irving is eligible to be traded to any of the 29 teams and the hard cap restriction does not apply.
With that in mind, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the superstar guard once free agency opens on Thursday.
