Miami Heat veteran star Kyle Lowry has faced several ups and downs this year—his first in the South Beach with the Miami Heat. Lowry wasn’t able to help his team adequately in the series vs Boston as he was dealing with a hamstring injury that limited him.

Lowry reflected on his first season with the team after the Gm7 defeat vs Boston. He called his year individually as a wasted one in Miami. Lowry was referring to the inability to play for the NBA title.

“I wish I would have been able to play a little bit better, at a higher level, but I didn’t. It just adds fuel. You don’t know how many more opportunities you will have to get back to this, so for me, honestly it was a waste of a year,” Lowry told reporters.

“I only play to win championships. It was fun, and I appreciate the guys, my teammates, and I appreciate the opportunity. But for me, it’s a waste of a year. You’re not playing for a championship — you’re not winning a championship, it’s a wasted year.”

It was a tumultuous year on and off the court as he dealt with injuries and personal issues that kept him sidelined for extended stretches during the season. He dealt with several issues missing games in the ECF and the Eastern Conference semifinals.

For the Eastern Conference Finals series, he averaged just 9.4 points on 28.6% shooting, scoring three points total in games four and five combined. He scored 15 points on 4-for-12 shooting in Game 7.

Lowry signed a three-year, $85 million contract with Miami last summer after getting traded to the Heat in a deal with the Toronto Raptors during the 2020-21 season. He and the Heat will try to bounce back next season.
