Golden State Warriors clinched their first playoff berth since 2019 and that thanks to Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole, who combined for 67 points in the win vs Utah.
Thompson was the leading scorer of the Warriors, who came back down 18 to win the game and snap a four-game losing streak.
Klay Thompson struggled in the first half, shooting just 5-of-12 from the field, but, the five-time All-Star delivered when the Warriors needed him most.
He had 12 points in 12 fourth quarter minutes, shooting 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. He hit four of his eight 3-pointers in the final period, and scored 24 points in the second half alone.
Thompson’s play fueled an 18-0 run that lasted 5:53 to help the Warriors complete their stunning comeback.
The 32-year-old entered Saturday’s game averaging 18.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists while shooting 41.3 percent from the floor and 36.5 percent from deep in 29 games.
Klay Thompson has been through many ups and downs since he came back in action in January after sitting out for two seasons due to multiple foot injuries.
“ Takes a lot of grit, physicality and mental fortitude and we really showed that in the second half,” Thompson said on his team effort during the second half.
“This is a getaway game tomorrow, so we cannot go to Sacramento and lay an egg. We got to go up there and have the same fight from the jump.”
The Warriors are 49-29, third place in the Western Conference. The team’s final standing and first-round playoff matchup will be determined soon.
The Dubs are maybe a win away from securing the third seed, which as of now will bring them against Denver in the first round of the playoffs.
