The Warriors finished the 2021-22 season in the best possible way as they added their fourth title in six Finals appearances. When Klay Thompson stepped to the microphone for his postgame press conference, he broke out the receipts for Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr.
In March, the Memphis Grizzlies handed the Warriors a blowout loss, 123-95. Following the Grizzlies’ win over the Warriors, Memphis big man Jaren Jackson Jr. took to Twitter. The 22-year-old tweeted “Strength in Numbers,” mocking Golden State’s former playoff moniker.
Klay specifically called out Jackson’s tweet from March. Thompson didn’t hold back when taking a shot at Jackson, calling the Grizzlies center a “bum” and a “clown.” Klay has also said he has a good memory.
“There is this one player on the Grizzlies who Tweeted “strength in numbers” after they beat us in the regular season and it pissed me off so much. I can’t wait to retweet that thing. Frigging bum,” Thompson said.
“I had to watch that, like this frigging — okay, okay. Sorry. Bad memory just popped up. Going to mock us? Like, you ain’t ever been there before, Bro. We been there. We know what it takes. Hold that. Twitter fingers, can you believe it?”
On the road to their fourth championship, Thompson and the Warriors eliminated Jackson and the Grizzlies from the 2022 postseason in the second round. Memphis gave a hard time to the Warriors in the last two seasons.
When the 2022-23 season starts, expect to see more back and forth between those two teams, as the up-and-coming Grizzlies are hoping to get better and compete for a championship after securing the 2nd seed and reaching the Western Conference semis last season.
