Kevin Love was expected to be part of the Team USA, which competed in the Tokyo Olympics last summer. The shooting big chose to withdraw from the team shortly before the start of the competition.
According to the veteran forward/center, he wasn’t in a good place during that time and that was the reason of his withdrawal. At that time, however, the team’s managing director, Jerry Colangelo claimed Love was out of shape.
The Cavaliers’ veteran waited for a year to respond. Love just finished a great season with the Cleveland Cavaliers coming off the bench to help the team reach the play-in tournament.
The established veteran looked back at those comments and revealed his true feelings:
“People that I’ve had relationships with throughout USA basketball for that long, threw me under the bus. And I didn’t like that,” Love said (h/t to fadeawayworld.net).
“I felt that I did the right thing by coming to the landing spot and landing point that I eventually got to. I just thought it was very unfair and coming from this elite fraternity that we have in our 450 players. You would think, like, you take care of each other.”
The veteran averaged 13.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists through 74 games last season. The Cavaliers finished with a 44-38 record, which was their first season with an over .500 winning percentage since 2017-18.
