Minnesota Timberwolves’ season came to an abrupt end after a hard-fought first-round series vs the Memphis Grizzlies. Karl-Anthony Towns spoke on his future with the organization as he is eligible for a max extension this summer.
If Towns makes an All-NBA team this season, the Wolves will offer him a four-year, $210.9 million extension on top of the two years on his existing contract. That will keep Towns in Minnesota for the next six years, through his age of 32.
“I love the city. So obviously things will happen this summer, when they happen, they happen. I’ve been here for so long I don’t like making prophecies, I’ll let it come if it comes,” Towns said, via T-Wolves beat writer Dane Moore.
“And if it comes, it comes, then we will deal with it when it comes.”
Obviously, Towns wants to remain with the team after a great season where the Timberwolves finished with the no.7 seed and a playoff berth for the first time in six years. Towns averaged 24.6 points and 9.8 rebounds a game.
He stayed healthy, playing through 74 games this past season. He and Anthony Edwards formed the star duo the Timberwolves were craving for years. The trend of superteams has been in free fall the last few years and the rise of the team building strategy seems to be more on the rise.
If the franchise makes the right team-building moves and the stars remain patient, then they can contend for a title. Many NBA superstars embrace that mindset, and the All-Star center seems ready to follow that path.
