In a day that was headlined by the MVP battle between Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid, Karl-Anthony Towns put up a fantastic performance to lead the Timberwolves to a 149-139 win vs Spurs.

KAT erupted for 60 points, including a 32-point explosion in the third quarter. That was the best scoring performance in Town’s career, surpassing his previous career high of 56 points.

The Timberwolves outscored San-Antonio 46-33 in the third quarter with 32 points caming off Towns, who dominated the Spurs’ frontcourt line.

KAT became the first player to put up 60 points this season, passing LeBron James and Trae Young, who held the previous season-high with 56.

Towns shot 19 for 31 and grabbed 17 rebounds in surpassing his previous career best of 56 points against Atlanta on March 28, 2018.

“Karl was fantastic,” Gregg Popovich told reporters. “He drove it, he shot it — he always plays hard. He’s a hell of a player. It’s not like it was a surprise, but tonight he was special.”

The All-Star big capped his performance by draining a 3-point shot with 1:39 remaining for the end of the game.

He became the first NBA player with 60 points and 17 rebounds in a game since Shaquille O’Neal had 61 and 23 for the Los Angeles Lakers back in March 2000.

The Timberwolves (40-30) are 1.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets, who came back from a 19-point deficit to claim a 114-110 victory vs the Sixers Monday.

Minnesota will host the slumping Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday. The Timberwolves won two of the three games between the two teams this season.
