Spanish NT big Juancho Hernangomez is not expected to return to Europe just yet, as he claimed in a recent interview with “EL PAIS”. The Utah Jazz player will be a free agent this summer after spending the past season in Boston, San Antonio and Utah.
“I want to continue in the NBA, I don’t see myself returning to Europe yet”, Hernangomez said to EL PAIS (h/t Eurohoops.net). “It’s no disrespect to the ACB or the EuroLeague, very much the opposite, I don’t see it as a step back in my career.”
Hernangomez had a limited role in the three teams he played for, he appeared in 17 games with the Jazz after just making 23 appearances combined in Boston and San Antonio. He finished the season with averages of 3.3 points and 2.5 points in 11.1 minutes per game.
“When they talk about Madrid, Barcelona, CSKA… I don’t care. I’m no supporter of any basketball team. I have spoken to nobody or signed any offer,” he continued on the possibility of returning to the upper European basketball level.
The Spanish forward played for the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves in his first five years of his NBA career. He was 15th overall pick of the 2016 NBA Draft, while he played in Estudiantes (2014-2016) prior to entering the NBA.
The Spanish forward expressed his willingness to play for Spain NT this summer despite not having a secured NBA future. Spain will participate in the 2022 EuroBasket which will take place between September 1-18.
