John Wall wouldn’t say no to a reunion with the Washington Wizards, per NBA reporter David Aldridge.
According to the longtime NBA scribe, the ongoing standoff between the Rockets and the veteran point guard might finally approach some sort of resolution in the 2022 offseason.
Trading Wall was a tough task for the Rockets this season due to his two-year, $92 million contract. Wall will become an expiring contract in the offseason.
Aldridge states that Bradley Beal is “not overtly advocating a Wall return, though wouldn’t dismiss a potential reunion out of hand.” (h/t to USA Today Sports).
Wall has not played since last year, but he’s working out waiting for an opportunity to return to the game.
Wall played the first 10 years of his career in Washington, before getting traded to the Rockets as part of the deal that sent Russell Westbrook to the Wizards.
At the time, Wall was considered a great “health risk” after missing most of the previous two years with an Achilles injury. Last season, he played 40 games with the Rockets, before the franchise shut him down.
The Wizards have already made a move to bring a big contract by trading Kristaps Porzingis. It does not make sense for them to give up depth and young assets for a player that only played 40 games in the last three seasons.
Assuming that Beal and Porzingis are off the table, the Wizards will have to make a proposal, which will start with Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to match salaries.
Even then, they will need an extra 15 million to make things work. The story should be different if Wall works with Houston on a buyout and become a free agent.
However, many teams could be potentially interested in signing a former All-Star player at the minimum. This refers especially to contending teams, like the Suns, Bucks, Heat, Clippers and Lakers to name a few.
The Wizards are, again, in the point guard market. John Wall is, again, looking for a gig. And, he’ll be entering the last year of his contract next season. So…would ya? In @TheAthletic: https://t.co/h6btzt4La3 — David Aldridge (@davidaldridgedc) March 9, 2022
