Joel Embiid had nothing bur praise for Nikola Jokic during his appearance in Draymond Green’s podcast. The two bigs are the top favorites to win the MVP award this season.
Jokic won the honor last season over Joel Embiid. The reigning MVP aspires to win the award again in the same fashion that Giannis Antetokounmpo did during the 2018-19 and the 2019-2020 season.
“First of all, Jokic is amazing,” Embiid said. He’s a monster. I only play against twice a year but you know how good he is and I know how good he is because I’m also happy that big guys are dominating the league.
When you look at whether it’s me or him, Giannis, you know… but it’s good to see foreign people dominate you guys [Americans] at your own sport.”
Embiid has also dominated this season, staying healthy for most of the time. He’s averaging 29.9 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists through 55 games.
“Winning a championship matters to me a lot, so if I were to not win (MVP), then win a championship, even better. But then again, you know we all have egos,” Embiid told Green.
Jokic has also been amazing leading an injury-riddled Nuggets squad directly to the NBA playoffs avoiding the play-in tournament
The superstar center also referred to the situation with Ben Simmons and the trade that sent the All-Star guard/forward to Brooklyn for James Harden.
Embiid spoke on his inability to understand the motive and the reason behind Simmons’s demand to leave the team.
