Joel Embiid overtakes lead in NBA scoring title race

After his monstrous performance vs Pacers on Tuesday, Joel Embiid has overtaken the no.1 spot in the NBA leading scorer race. Embiid put up 45 points to lead the Sixers to a 131-122 win over Indiana.

The five-time All-Star finished the game with 45 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and a block. With that performance, Embiid surpassed LeBron James, who hasn’t played in the last two games.

Embiid is now averaging 30.424 points as opposed to LeBron’s 30.268, per Sportscenter. With less than a week remaining for the end of the season, scoring title is Embiid’s to lose.

Giannis Antetokounmpo remains close despite having a quiet game vs Chicago on Tuesday. Giannis went to score just 18 points in Bucks 127-108 win over the slumping Bulls. Brook Lopez led the Bucks in scoring in this game putting up 28.

On the other side, LeBron could not be qualified to win the scoring title if he does not play in the last two games of the season. The Lakers are out of the playoff contention after their blowout loss to the Suns on Tuesday.

Embiid is hoping to end up winning the MVP award this season. The Sixers’ superstar is in a close race with Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo in the same fashion as the scoring title race.

If he’s able to secure both individual awards, it will headlined a great season for him despite the 76ers did not have their second-best player in the roster until they trade Simmons to Brooklyn in exchange for James Harden.

Philadelphia is sitting at 49-30 in a triple-tie with Milwaukee and Boston. The last two games of the season will determine the final seeding and who will play who in the first round of the playoffs.
