The Utah Jazz have no intention to keep Donovan Mitchell long-term and want to trade him at the soonest time possible.
The reason is that they expect the superstar guard to leave the franchise once he becomes an unrestricted free agent. This can happen in 2025, when he will have a player option for the 2025/26 season.
“Well, let’s start with this: the overwhelming feeling among league insiders is that Mitchell is likely to sign outside of Utah at the first available opportunity in 2025. Mitchell considers New York home. Mitchell has spent the majority of this offseason in New York this year. His skills trainer, Chris Brickley, operates out of a gym in the city. It makes sense that he’d be interested in living there full time,” Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

The Jazz have listened to offers for Donovan Mitchell and were in talks with the New York Knicks. However, negotiations stopped, as Utah has extremely high trade demands. Yet, the Knicks are expected to come back and make another offer to land Mitchell.
Superstar guard Donovan Mitchell still has four years and $134,8M left in his current contract with the Utah Jazz.
