Jazz-Knicks could agree to a deal for Donovan Mitchell in late September – early October

It seems that it will take several weeks for the Utah Jazz and the New York Knicks to agree to a deal for Donovan Mitchell.

Even though the two sides engaged in talks a few weeks ago, there has been no progress since then and it is likely a deal could be made in late September – early October.

“The sense I get right now is it’s probably not going to happen on an imminent level. The two sides aren’t close. To me, I think if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen closer to training camp or the start of the season. If it doesn’t happen then, we’ll see what happens closer to the February trade deadline. It’s one of the reasons why the Jazz haven’t made a lot of moves around their roster. Mitchell is a domino that has to be taken care of one way or the other. If the Jazz trade Donovan Mitchell, then it’s going to make sense to go younger. Then, I’d expect more moves on top of that,” Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reports.

The Knicks remain the favorite to land the superstar guard, as they are the only team that can quickly construct a package with the assets the Jazz are looking for.

However, Utah’s extremely high trade demands make things more complicated and the next few weeks will show if there is going to be any progress soon.

Donovan Mitchell still has four years and $134,8M left in his current contract with the Utah Jazz.
