The Boston Celtics could not meet the physicality of a desperate Warriors team in Game 2 loss Sunday night. In contrast with Gm1, Jaylen Brown had a down night with 17 points on 5-of-17 shooting.
Brown was asked after the game about the second quarter tangle up with Warriors’ Draymond Green. The explosive forward claimed Green should have been awarded with his second technical in this situation.
As Green landed over Brown, his leg was draped over his shoulder and up near his face. Brown took offense to that, clearly. The two players had to be separated after having words.
“On that situation, Draymond fouled me on a three and put his legs on my head or whatever. I tried to get up. But that’s what they’re going to do. That’s what he’s going to do,” said Brown.
“He’s going to try to muck the game up, try to raise the level of intensity. We’ve got to raise ours. I feel like they got away with a lot tonight, but we’ve got to come ready to play, come ready to meet that physicality on both ends.”
Brown voiced his concern over Draymond’s gimmicks, but he believes the Warriors’ forward should have been ejected during their tangle up. Green went on to finish the game with nine points, seven assists and five rebounds in 34 minutes of play.
“I feel like that was an illegal play. I feel like they could have called it, but they let it go in terms of a technical either way. But I don’t know what I was supposed to do there,” the Celtics swingman claimed.
“Somebody got their legs on the top of your head and then he tried to pull my pants down. I don’t know what that was about. That’s what Draymond Green does. He’ll do whatever it takes to win,” Brown continued.
“He’ll pull you, he’ll grab you, he’ll try to muck the game up because that’s what he does for their team. It’s nothing to be surprised about. Nothing I’m surprised about. He raised his physicality to try to stop us and we’ve got to raise ours.”
The Celtics were outplayed in the second half, especially in the third quarter, when the Warriors went on a 14-35 run to put the game out of reach. The Celtics could not make another epic comeback after the Warriors make consecutive back-breaking plays.
Draymond Green was an important part of that run as he’s the main play-maker of the Warriors taking advantage of Steph Curry’s gravity. If the Celtics can neutralize his impact in Game 3 and 4, then they have a great chance to win the Finals.
