James Harden has decided to remain with the Philadelphia 76ers and has agreed to a new deal with the franchise. This is what Shams Charania of The Athletic reports, adding that the superstar guard took a significant paycut, allowing the Sixers to elevate the roster.
This paycut will be around $15M for Harden, who has his sights set on a championship run next season. The new deal between James Harden and Philadelphia will be for two years, with Year 2 being a player option.
The multiple time All-Star declined his $47M player option to negotiate a new deal with the Sixers. Harden could become a free agent again next summer.
The three-time scoring champion and one-time NBA MVP appeared in 21 games for the Sixers, averaging 21 points, 10.5 assists and 7.1 rebounds. His team suffered a second-round playoff exit, losing to the Miami Heat in six games (4-2).
Everyone around Harden has understood the focus on his workout regimen this offseason and a championship goal for 2022-23. His close relationships with those around the organization, including Michael Rubin and Daryl Morey, played a major role in trust between the two sides. https://t.co/q1eDY9xrDy — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 8, 2022
