James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers are finalizing the terms of the new contract and are hopeful they will reach an agreement soon.

This is what Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports, with Sixers president Daryl Morey saying that negotiations are ‘in a good place’.

Daryl Morey tells @YahooSports, @NBATV that negotiations with James Harden is “still in progress” and in a “good place.” Talks are a collaborating effort of Harden, Morey, Harden’s business partner Lorenzo McCloud and Michael Rubin. Both sides optimistic a deal will be done soon. — Chris Haynes (@ChrisBHaynes) July 9, 2022

The superstar guard wil take a paycut of around $15M and will agree to a new two-year deal, worth $64M, with Year 2 being a player option. Harden declined his $47M player option to negotiate a new deal with Philadelphia.

That way, James Harden will give the Sixers much-needed cap flexibility to elevate the roster and remain a title contender.

The three-time scoring champion and one-time NBA MVP appeared in 21 games for the Sixers last season, averaging 21 points, 10.5 assists and 7.1 rebounds. His team suffered a second-round playoff exit, losing to the Miami Heat in six games (4-2).

Everyone around Harden has understood the focus on his workout regimen this offseason and a championship goal for 2022-23. His close relationships with those around the organization, including Michael Rubin and Daryl Morey, played a major role in trust between the two sides. https://t.co/q1eDY9xrDy — Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) July 8, 2022
