Philadelphia 76ers superstar James Harden believes his co-star Joel Embiid deserves to be the 2022 NBA MVP.
Having received his fair share of MVP consideration, Harden knows an MVP when he sees one.
“He deserves it, man,” Harden said recently, via ESPN. “I’ve only been here for a few weeks, but I already see his mindset. He wants to win. Some guys just want numbers, but he has both.
He has the mentality of winning, and he scores the ball at a high level. I think he’s prepared himself, especially coming off last year, for this year to be one of his best years.”
Embiid has carried the Sixers to a top-four seed in the East, playing mostly alongside a good bunch of role players for most of the season.
The Sixers (45-27) are 1.5 games back of first place in the Eastern Conference. Embiid is top three in the NBA in scoring, seventh in rebounding (11.3) and third in efficiency (33.0).
Even after trading for a superstar like James Harden, Embiid’s numbers remained at the same MVP level, averaging 30.6 and 11.8 rebounds in 13 games.
“Most of the games he’s played this year, we’ve been fighting for the No. 1 seed,” Harden said. “And he’s not only top 2, top 3 in scoring, but he’s impactful to our team winning.”
Philadelphia will play the Clippers on Friday night, as the team continued the road trip in LA after beating the Lakers two days ago.
