James Harden reflects on time with Nets: “In reality, things don’t work off what if”

James Harden became part of another blockbuster trade in less than two seasons, and now he’s preparing to star in postseason action with the Philadelphia 76ers.

In a recent interview with Complex Sports, the Sixers’ superstar was asked to reflect in his stint with the Brooklyn Nets.

“It was a lot of ups and downs. I appreciate the Nets and the city for what they’ve done for me in that year and a half,” the 76ers guard said.

“This is a business and for me, I think my happiness is the most important thing so I had to make the best decision for myself and for my family. But yea, I appreciated the time in Brooklyn.”

Harden was sent to Philadelphia in exchange for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry and Andre Drummomd at the trade deadline.

The trade put an end to the KD-Harden-Kyrie experiment, as the three had rarely met in the court playing together during their time in Brooklyn.

Durant, Harden and Irving played just 365 minutes total over 16 games; 10 regular-season ones and six playoff matchups.

The Nets logged 119 points per 100 possessions—an offensive efficiency rate that would shatter the NBA record—with those three on the court during regular-season contests.

“Yea, I think everybody thinks that,” Harden said on the “what if everyone was healthy” question.

“Everybody thinks about ‘what if, what if, what if’ but in reality, things don’t work off what if,” he stated.

With Harden and Embiid healthy, the Philadelphia 76ers are hoping to make a deep run in the postseason and eventually win the NBA title.

Harden and Embiid had 21 games together in the regular season outscoring opponents by 15.9 points per 100 possessions in the 603 minutes they shared the court.

The Sixers will face Toronto in the first round of the playoffs starting Saturday. The Sixers had a three losses vs Raptors in four games in the regular season.
