James Harden plans to pick up player option and sign lucrative extension with Sixers

James Harden has until June 29 to pick up his player option, worth $47.4M, and remain with the Philadelphia 76ers.

In addition, the superstar guard wants to sign a contract extension with the Sixers and will seek a new lucrative deal.

“James Harden is heading toward opting into that $47 million player option and then extending, perhaps by as many by two more years, at a significant number with the Sixers.

He will likely [sign] something short of a max contract, but still a significant commitment from Philly to keep him and for him to stay in Philadelphia,” Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN said on Sports Center.

The Sixers want to offer Harden a short-term deal and not the max one. As a result, they view a three-year deal as the best option at the moment.
