James Harden has decided to opt out of his player option, worth $47.4M, and become a free agent. This is what Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports, noting that the superstar guard aims to work on a new deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Harden wants to agree to a new deal with the Sixers, which will be beneficial to both sides. That way, Philadelphia will have more cap flexibility in free agency and the ability to bolster the roster.
After a second-round exit last season, James Harden knows the Sixers need to have a deep and talented roster in order to fight for the championship.
Philadelphia has already been linked to free agent P.J Tucker, but they will need a lucrative contract to sign him. The same goes for Houston Rockets’ veteran, Eric Gordon, whom the Sixers will pursue as well.
The opt-out could go a long way in reshaping the Sixers’ bench, including that full mid-level exception, $4.1M bi-annual exception and sign-and-trades. — Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) June 29, 2022
