Jamal Murray could be on his way to return making progress after going down with an ACL tear one year ago.
With that in mind, despite his progress, Mike Singer of Denver Post reports Murray got a “50-50 chance” to return this season.
With less than 20 games remaining in the regular season, the timeline for a potential return become stingier for the superstar guard.
On April 12 of last year, Murray tore his ACL vs. Golden State. He had surgery to repair his knee later that month but wasn’t given a specific timetable to return.
Before suffering the injury last year, the guard was averaging a career-high 21.2 points and 4.8 assists per game in 48 games played. He was shooting 40 percent from deep, the first time in his career since he was drafted 7th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Even without Murray, the Nuggets remain a solid team. They sith sixth in the Western Conference at 40–27. Monte Morris and Bones Hyland have emerged as the main rotational pieces in the point guard position.
The Denver Nuggets don’t know when Murray will be ready, but Michael Porter Jr. is expected to be back soon. The scoring forward underwent a back injury nine games into the season.
Both players could be going to the G League to ramp up activity before any decision on them coming back this season occurred.According to Singer that could happen within the next week.
In any case, the Nuggets are still punching above the weight due to Nikola Jokic MVP play. Any potential return of Porter or Murray will increase their chance for a deep playoff run in the postseason.
