Jamal Murray made another step towards his return, after suffering a torn ACL a year ago. The superstar guard has joined the Denver Nuggets’ G-League affiliate and will practice on Wednesday and Saturday.
Denver coaching staff wants to see the condition of Jamal Murray, who is on his way to his season debut with the Nuggets.
Nuggets will get a good idea of where Murray’s at once he returns to Denver and then determine next steps. Michael Porter Jr. is not with Grand Rapids at this time, I’m told. https://t.co/wJAPKwMUAq — Harrison Wind (@HarrisonWind) March 15, 2022
The young guard has been out since April 12, 2021. Still, there has been no timetable for his return. There is optimism, though, that he will be ready for the playoffs, although there has been no official update from the club yet.
Prior to his injury, Jamal Murray was averaging a career-high 21.2 points (40% from beyond the arc) and 4.8 assists in 48 games played.
Denver is in no rush to bring Murray back, as the club wants him to be 100% ready. However, with the Nuggets aiming for a deep playoff run, it is possible the star guard will return on time for the postseason.
Denver currently is sixth in the West, at 41-28. They are 1.5 games below 5th-placed Dallas Mavericks (42-26). The Nuggets want to avoid dropping to the play-in tournament spots, as they are 1.5 games above the Minnesota Timberwolves (40-30).
With Jamal Murray out, the Nuggets have relied on Nikola Jokic. The reigning NBA MVP has been one of the best players in the league this season and en route to his second straight MVP award.
The Serbian center is averaging 26 points, 13.8 rebounds and 8.1 assists in 62 games with the Nuggets this season.
