Ja Morant “not a stat watcher” after falling one rebound shy of triple-double

Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant is all about winning and that’s the main theme in his comments after falling one rebound shy of his first career triple-double in the postseason.

Morant had an all-around performance in Memphis Game 2 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The explosive guard finished with 23 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds on 9-for-16 shooting.

He was crucial for the Grizzlies, who opened the second half with a 21-7 run. Morant scored 12 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach and bring the series to 1-all.

“I’m pretty much not stat watcher, so I didn’t even know I was a rebound shy of a triple-double until I came out and my teammates told me I needed one more,” Morant told reporters.

The Grizzlies outscored the Timberwolves 60-34 in paint points while grabbing 14 offensive rebounds, leading to 19 second chance points. Memphis did all the right things to bounce back from a Game 1 disappointing loss.

“I’m all about winning. If I get the win, I can have zero across the board,” Morant continued. “Obviously, if you get a triple-double, It’s hard to do it in the league. So, that’s special as well, but, the win is the most important thing.”

Memphis recorded the largest margin of victory in franchise playoff history (+28). The Grizzlies’ previous largest margin of victory was set in a 21-point win over the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2013 Playoffs.

This was the first Grizzlies’ victory in the postseason since 2017.Memphis evened its first round series with Minnesota, 1-1. Game 3 is Thursday, April 21, at the Target Center in Minneapolis.

“No highs or lows,” Jaren Jackson Jr., who finished with 16 points and four made threes, said on the Grizzlies’ mentality.

“Stay level. It doesn’t matter. At the end of day, it’s the best of seven. That’s all that matters. You’ve to win the game, so whatever it takes to get that win”.
