Charlotte Hornets have parted ways with head coach Jame Borrego, the team announced earlier today. In four seasons with Charlotte, Borrego posted a 138-163 (.458) record.
The news was announced by the Hornets’ President of Basketball Operations & General Manager Mitch Kupchak.
“I want to thank JB for his hard work and commitment during these past four seasons,” said Kupchak. “Beyond his work as a coach, he is a tremendous person. I wish him and his family the best in the future.”
The Hornets reached the play-in tournament in consecutive seasons, but, they were blown out in the final game of the year vs Atlanta.
Borrego helped young Charlotte stars to blossom as Miles Bridges and LaMelo Ball were the top-scorers of an excellent offensive team.
“These decisions are always difficult. Having said that, we have a talented, young core of players which has me very excited about the future of the Hornets. We will begin the search for our new head coach immediately,” Kupchak stated.
Borrego was the 11th head coach in the franchise history leading the team for four seasons. He served as Orlando Magic coach for the final 30 games of the 2014-15 season.
He has also worked as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, New Orleans Pelicans and the Magic.
The Hornets have missed the playoffs for six straight seasons and have made them just three times over 18 seasons.
