Heat star guard Tyler Herro seeks max contract extension

Reigning Sixth Man of the Year Tyler Herro wants to remain with the Miami Heat long-term and seeks a max contract extension.

“The word on the street is definitely that both [R.J.] Barrett and Tyler Herro are looking for maximum contract extensions,” Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer said during a recent episode of his podcast, via Heat Nation.

Herro is expected to become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2023. He is now eligible for a five-year, max rookie extension, worth $188M.

The young guard has been linked to a move to the Brooklyn Nets and the Utah Jazz as part of the Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell trade.

However, the star guard aims to not only remain with the franchise, but also become a starter. For its part, Miami wants to land a superstar this offseason and will certainly move Herro in order to strike a deal with the Jazz or the Nets.

Last season, Tyler Herro averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists, on 40% from beyond the arc.
