Heat retain Caleb Martin on a three-year deal

Restricted free agent Caleb Martin agreed to a three-year worth $20+ million with the Miami Heat, Shams Charania reports. Martin was a steady contributor, especially in the defensive end, for the Heat last season.

Martin served as one of Jimmy Butler’s primary backups in 2021-22, averaging 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 41% from deep. Martin played two seasons for the Charlotte Hornets alongside his twin brother, Cody, who also signed a new deal this offseason.

The Heat haven’t been very active in the free agency market. However, they retained some of their crucial rotational pieces like Dewayne Dedmon and Martin. They are expected to make their pitch for Kevin Durant at some point.

They reportedly are among the desired destinations of the Brooklyn Nets’ superstar. The Heat also lost P.J. Tucker, who served as a key defensive piece this past season. However, thety kept the main core of Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, and  Bam Adebayo.
