Grizzlies star Ja Morant set to return on time for the playoffs

Ja Morant will be back on time for the start of the playoffs on April 16, according to Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins.

Morant has been out since March 18, when he tweaked his right knee in the game vs the Atlanta Hawks. And as Jenkins told reporters on Thursday, he is progressing well with his recovery.

“He’s doing great. All signs are in a really good direction, but he’s definitely getting close. He did 5-on-5 for the first time today, so that’s really encouraging.

(He) responded well afterward we’ll see how he responds (Friday) obviously, as we go into this back-to-back back home,” Jenkins said, via NBA.com.

Ja Morant has been the Grizzlies’ leading scorer, averaging 27.6 points, along with 5.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists.

This is not the first time the young star guard misses games because of an injury. Earlier this season, he missed 12 games with a left knee sprain. Ja Morant has appeared in a total of 56 games this year.

For its part, Memphis has already clinched its spot in the playoffs and the second place in the West (55-25).

They can set a franchise-record for victories in a season by winning their last two games vs the New Orleans Pelicans (home) and Boston Celtics (home).
