The Milwaukee Bucks announced that superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo will not play Saturday against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to right knee soreness.
Antetokounmpo dealt with knee, ankle, calf and quad ailments, but nothing that’s kept him on the sideline for an extended period. He also spent some time in the Health and Safety protocols.
Giannis has been on pace to finish another dominant season in Milwaukee being at the Top-3 of the favorites to win the MVP. He has averaged 29.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.4 blocks through 59 appearances.
All information on Giannis seem to be pointing to just a rest day than a significant injury for the Bucks’ superstar. Milwaukee is hoping to make a deep playoff run, and Mike Budenholzer might opt to keep Antetokounmpo healthy and fresh for the postseason.
With Brook Lopez back, Milwaukee had plenty of options in the frontcourt with Bobby Portis and Serge Ibaka playing as power forwards. As a result, both are expecting to see a bump in their minutes with the 2021 Final’s MVP out.
Moreover, Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton will be expected to carry a heavier burden in the offensive end for the Bucks. The Timberwolves are unstoppable since the All-Star break having a 10-2 record and scoring 125 points per game.
They are seventh in the Western Conference with a 41-30 record hoping to get into the Top-6 and avoid the play-in tournament.
The Bucks are second in the East with a 44-26 record, 2.5 games behind the top-seeded Miami Heat.
