Former EuroLeague and NBA player Adreian Payne was shot and killed early Monday morning in Orlando, Florida, per the Detroit Free Press.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida announced it responded to a call of a man who had been shot. Payne was transported to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The former Michigan State prodigy played for the Spartans for four seasons. He was picked 15th by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2014 NBA Draft. He stayed in the NBA for five seasons playing for the Hawks, Magic and Timberwolves.
He also played for two EuroLeague teams in three different stints. The forward/center joined Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos in two different stints winning the Greek League in 2018 and the Greek Cup in 2019.
He also played for ASVEL Villeurbanne and won the domestic cup and the domistic league during the 2018-19 season. After spending time in France and Turkey from 2019-2021, Payne signed in December with Juventus Utena in Lithuania.
He was released and become a free agent last February.
