Draymond Green on Adreian Payne: “I call on my Spartan family to come together and do somethin

Draymond Green had a pretty emotional night during Gm 4 of the series between the Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies. In the post-game presser, Green did not want to talk about the game.

He talked about his friend and former teammate Adreian Payne, who tragically shot and killed Monday in Florida. The Warriors’ star revealed he will donate $100,000 to Payne’s fund.

He also called the rest of the Michigan State Spartans community to “bend together” and do something in honor of the former Hawks superstar. Green was a teammate of Payne. They played together for two seasons.

Payne averaged 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game and led the team to the Elite Eight during the 2013-14 season. Green told reporters he will talk about Payne in his podcast as he does not like to cry in front of people.

“I’m gonna go home and just sit on my podcast and talk because I can pause that and cry if I need to cry. I don’t like to cry in front of people,” Green said (h/t to Basketnews.com).

“What I will say is Hazel, and I are gonna donate $100,000 to a fund in Adreian’s name,” he continued.

“I call on my Spartan family – coach Izzo, Magic, Jaren Jackson, Miles Bridges, Mat Ishbia – all of my Spartan family to come in and let’s do something in honor of Adreian.”

The former Michigan State prodigy played for the Spartans for four seasons. He was picked 15th by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2014 NBA Draft. He stayed in the NBA for five seasons, playing for the Hawks, Magic and Timberwolves.
