Donovan Mitchell addresses rumors on future with Jazz

Donovan Mitchell addressed the rumors regarding his future with the Utah Jazz and whether Utah plans to trade him in the offseason.

The superstar guard made it clear he never asked out of Utah and wants to remain with the team. He also noted he is focused on winning and doesn’t pay much attention to rumors.

“I’m at a point now where it’s the NBA, this is what it is. People are going to write things. If I have to respond every five minutes to a story, then I’m taking away from my teammates, and I’m taking away from my happiness.

I love this team, and we want to find a way to win as a group. I’m focused on my team. As long as my teammates and my coaches know my intentions, then that’s what it is,” Donovan Mitchell told Tony Jones of The Athletic.

The All-Star guard is under contract with the Jazz until the summer of 2026. He signed a five-year extension last summer, worth a total of $163M.

It appears, though, that his relationship with star teammate Rudy Gobert still isn’t at its very best. As a result, there are reports about Mitchell leaving Utah this offseason.

For the time being, the young guard has his sights set on a championship run with Utah. He is averaging 25.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and a career-high 5.2 assists this season. The Jazz currently are fourth in the West, at 36-22.

Mitchell missed the All-Star Game on Sunday, because of a non-Covid illness. It is yet unclear if he will be ready for the game vs the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.
