Doncic out indefinitely with calf strain

Dallas Mavericks announced Luka Doncic is listed out indefinitely with NBA playoffs looming. The Mavs will play the Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs starting Saturday in Dallas.

The Mavs superstar grabbed his calf briefly after jumping to throw a pass and asked for a timeout with 2:24 remaining in the third quarter of Sunday’s game vs San Antonio. He then hobbled to the locker room to receive treatment.

He had 26 points until that point in the season finale. The superstar guard is averaging 28.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.7 assists in 65 regular-season games.

The Mavericks have an 8-9 record without Doncic in the regular season. They won 44 of the 65 games the Slovenian superstar played. There was initial optimism Doncic did not suffer a significant injury.

In any case, a calf strain could keep him away from several days to several weeks. Doncic’s absence could have serious consequences in the Mavs chances to go through the first round for the first time since 2011.

After a slow start in the 2021-22 regular season, Dallas had a breakthrough as a team since January to finish the season with a 52-30 record. They only suffered 12 defeats since January 1st.
