Domantas Sabonis will miss Sacramento Kings next handful of games the team announced Monday. That’s a huge hit for Sacramento heading into the last 10 games of the season as they are already missing star point guard De’Aaron Fox.
Sabonis suffered the injury in the Kings’ overtime loss to the Suns on Sunday after colliding with forward Mikal Bridges. The Kings said in a statement that an MRI revealed no structural damage.
The Lithuanian big will be re-evaluated after the Kings return from a five-game road trip. Sabonis was acquired in a trade with the Pacers ahead of the February deadline in a deal centered around point guard Tyrese Haliburton.
Sabonis, 25, has averaged 18.9 points, 12.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 15 games with the Kings since the trade.
“Obviously, he’s a key to what we’re doing, and, if nothing else, we’re trying to have growth with the chemistry and everything on this team and learning to play with each other, so obviously when he goes down like that, there’s always concern,” Alvin Gentry said Sunday, via sacbee.com.
The Kings are 25-48 and in 13th place in the Western Conference. They are six games sout of the final play-in spot.
